2020 Film Reel



My film reel is meant to portray teen life, adventure, and a little bit of conflict. I feel that this reel mainly showcases cinematography, and editing, and lighting. I used beat sink on some of the shots but not all so it didn't become predictable and boring. I also had some actions happen to the beat of the song. When ending my film reel I chose a really bright outside shot full of warm colors, I chose to do so because it ends the reel on a positive note. I also only choose shots that were really cinematic to include in my film reel. Thats probably why my reel was shorter than a minute, but I plan to add a lot more work after the completion of my music video. I used three works in this film reel: Perfect Putty,  Levis Commercial, and Wimp. For the most part transitions between these pieces worked pretty well, but there are a few jarring cuts because of drastic lighting changes. One thing I would like to change next time I update my reel is the music, its spliced together in some places and i'm just tired of it. Other then that i'm really happy with the footage I used and how I edited it, and am excited to update it again with my music video footage.

Vans Commercial

 Production  Our commercial was for Vans, the concept that we wanted to get across was that vans are a great durable shoe that bring people together.  Our pre production went really smoothly and we got our script and storyboards all done. Production also went extremely well. It was a little interesting to film at a skate park, we had to make sure not to get in anyones way but overall it was really fun. Post production could have gone better though. Our video was turned in late and it didn't meet the 30 second requirement. That is definitely something to improve on. I think we did a pretty good job on all the five guarantees except communication and project management. Music Video

The Kids Turned out Fine - A$AP Rocky This music video is a collage of teenagers and children messing around having fun, maybe having a little too much fun shown by drug use and law enforcement involvment. These events are seamlessly sewn together by flowing transitions and over the top editing. The line "The kids turned out fine" is repeated throughout most of the music video and is almost ironic but also comforting. There isn't much of story to this video as it is mostly disconnected events but there is a very powerful theme of kids naturally wanting to rebel and have fun. A$AP Rocky always makes sure to have a super diverse group of people for his music videos. An abundance of different cultures, races, and sexuality's are shown in this video and it really suits the theme. One of my favorite elements of this music video is the editing. 6-shot Procedure

For the Procedure video my group came up with the idea of how to get the elevator key in case you ever get injured or would need to use the elevator for whatever reason. We started of creating a storyboard for our video, not the most entertaining thing but definitely necessary. Once we had a clear plan of what we were going to do we gave ourselves group roles, my job was editing and  actor. We then started filming which was a difficult because we had to get permission from the the nurse and she is usually busy. We used a variety of shots especially close ups to show detain in our process. We also used a variety of shots of us walking to make it look like we traveled a long distance in a short period of time. Once we finished filming we moved on to editing. I put the close ups one after another and cut them very quick to give an interesting effect. I also used transition such as fade to white to show time change. I even had to reverse a clip because of our lack of footage....
