Graphic Final

Infographic

We are currently working on an infographic project in graphic design. I chose to do my infographic over Destin, Florida. We started off by sketching our infographics and graphics. This was a little challenging for me since I am awful at drawing. After sketching everything out we made color swatches in Illustrator. We then started working on creating our graphics in illustrator. We used several tools such as the pen tool to trace images. Mrs Beaudoin gave me many tips to perfect the pen tool and work efficiently with it. So far I have only finished my graphics which took about three weeks including all the planning and sketching, but I think they have turned out pretty well. Overall I think this is a very good project to get us more comfortable with illustrator.

Collage

For this project we had to take a bunch of images and blend them together to make a collage. I chose to use some picture I took while in South Dakota. I learned how to use he eraser tool to blend images together. Sometimes this trick wouldn't work when images were made up of very different colors. My idea of how I wanted it to turn out kept changing as I kept blending more images so I basically just winged it. In the end it took about two week, I thought I did a pretty good job, but the bottom half of my collage seemed a little rushed and could have looked better.

Photoshop Challenge 2

In this project we had to take several different landscape images and blend them together to make one image. I chose to stick to a space theme. I started off with taking a picture of a mountain range, then i put a galaxy/nebula background behind it. I also put two moons and a spaceship in the background, these took a while to adjust the drop shadows and other various settings to make them look like they are actually in the sky. This project taught us how to do many things in photoshop, but the big takeaway from this protect was how to properly use clipping masks. I mostly stuck to my original plan and branched off from there. This project took about a week, and overall I enjoyed it a lot and thought I did a pretty good job.

Time Management

Whenever I had extra time in this class I made sure everything was saved to the right location, and my Behance was updated. I also would browse Behance in my free time and look at other peoples work posted there.

Strengths

One of my strengths is time management because I finished everything on time, and if I ever needed more time  would make arrangements to come in during power 50.

Areas of Improvement

I would like to learn more about Photoshop and Illustrator and the tools within them. I just feel like there is so much I don't know how to do that would be super helpful to know.

Summary

My favorite part of this semester was the amount of freedom you get to use your own creativity and create things that express you. If I go back and change one thing it would probably just be to spend more time on certain projects and perfect them. One take-away I have is that you must communicate with the teacher in order to figure out how to use the program and sort out any problems you have. One goal I have for next semester is to put more time into my assignments and make them as unique as possible. Overall I thought this was a very fun semester and it taught us a lot about Photoshop and Illustrator.

Music Video

The Kids Turned out Fine - A$AP Rocky This music video is a collage of teenagers and children messing around having fun, maybe having a little too much fun shown by drug use and law enforcement involvment. These events are seamlessly sewn together by flowing transitions and over the top editing. The line "The kids turned out fine" is repeated throughout most of the music video and is almost ironic but also comforting. There isn't much of story to this video as it is mostly disconnected events but there is a very powerful theme of kids naturally wanting to rebel and have fun. A$AP Rocky always makes sure to have a super diverse group of people for his music videos. An abundance of different cultures, races, and sexuality's are shown in this video and it really suits the theme. One of my favorite elements of this music video is the editing. Each shot pans into the next shot with over the top editing and transitions, it makes the disconnected events feel connected and...

Vans Commercial

Production  Our commercial was for Vans, the concept that we wanted to get across was that vans are a great durable shoe that bring people together.  Our pre production went really smoothly and we got our script and storyboards all done. Production also went extremely well. It was a little interesting to film at a skate park, we had to make sure not to get in anyones way but overall it was really fun. Post production could have gone better though. Our video was turned in late and it didn't meet the 30 second requirement. That is definitely something to improve on. I think we did a pretty good job on all the five guarantees except communication and project management. I would like to see things turned in on time for my next project, and to have better communication between editor and cinematographer.  Role   For this commercial I took on the production role of cinematographer. This was one of my goals I set last year: I wanted get more familiar with the cam...

Film Reel Blog

For my film reel I tried to portray a teen lifestyle. It shows several teenagers in moments when they are thriving and when they are at a low. I really like this because it makes the reel more relatable to my fellow classmates. I also wanted it to really flow naturally to make it easy to watch so I didn't have any headers for my film clips and just let the shots speak for themselves. I also tried to edit my shots in a way that the movement flowed through each to make it feel even more smooth and collected.   I also tried to really showcase cinematography and good lighting in this reel. I used some of my best colored and lit shots from lowlight and daylight to show the variety I am capable of. I chose my most cinematically composed shots that show purposeful spacing and positioning of the subjects. I had my friend Cade Wait compose my music so it would fit perfectly with my reel and add some extra suspense. I was very picky with the shots I used so unfortunately my reel was a ...
