Video Final

Overview
This semester we focused on convergence media. It was really interesting to see how it all works and to create convergence pieces of our own. Here is some of my work from this semester.

Advanced Feature Story

For this project, we had to make a feature news piece that was timely and relevant to ONW. My group chose to do our video about finals. We interviewed three students and asked them their opinions on finals. This project took about two weeks to complete. One of the challenges we faced was to adjust all the audio clips so they weren't too loud or too quiet. One of the most important things we learned is that the use of nat noise can make a huge difference in a feature news piece. Some of the feedback we got was the lack of transitions, so we went back and added video, and audio transitions to make the video seem smoother. Overall I was really impressed with the outcome of this project and thought me and my group did a really good job.

ONW Now News Story

For this project, we had to create a news piece for a sophomore version of ONW Now. My group chose to do the underclassmen play. This news piece took my group about a week, we had to finish on time because the sophomore version of ONW Now needed to be completed before the end of the semester. The biggest challenge we faced was probably the deadline because we had very limited time. I learned a lot about news writing and styles of news writing such as the inverted pyramid. Because we were short on time we didn't get any feedback, but if I were to go back and fix something I would probably rearrange my interview clips to make the whole video make more sense. I thought the final product was ok but if I had more time I think I could make it a whole lot better.

Time Management

I used my class time to make sure me and my group were on the same page and to finish the bulk of my work. If I finished a project and had time left over I would discuss with my group, and see what we could do to improve it. I would also come in before or during Raven 50 to finish any work I didn't have time to do in class.

Strengths and Areas Of Improvement

One of my strengths is time management, I was able to complete every project on time. I also think I am pretty good at editing but I still have a lot to learn. Something I want to improve is my writing and storyboarding because sometimes I would rush through it.

Summary

What I really liked about this semester was the creative freedom we had on all our projects. If I were to do one thing differently it would probably spend more time writing and planning. My goal for next semester is to come in during Raven 50 more often. Overall I thought this semester was very fun and a great learning experience, I can't wait for entertainment next semester.

Music Video

The Kids Turned out Fine - A$AP Rocky This music video is a collage of teenagers and children messing around having fun, maybe having a little too much fun shown by drug use and law enforcement involvment. These events are seamlessly sewn together by flowing transitions and over the top editing. The line "The kids turned out fine" is repeated throughout most of the music video and is almost ironic but also comforting. There isn't much of story to this video as it is mostly disconnected events but there is a very powerful theme of kids naturally wanting to rebel and have fun. A$AP Rocky always makes sure to have a super diverse group of people for his music videos. An abundance of different cultures, races, and sexuality's are shown in this video and it really suits the theme. One of my favorite elements of this music video is the editing. Each shot pans into the next shot with over the top editing and transitions, it makes the disconnected events feel connected and...

Vans Commercial

Production  Our commercial was for Vans, the concept that we wanted to get across was that vans are a great durable shoe that bring people together.  Our pre production went really smoothly and we got our script and storyboards all done. Production also went extremely well. It was a little interesting to film at a skate park, we had to make sure not to get in anyones way but overall it was really fun. Post production could have gone better though. Our video was turned in late and it didn't meet the 30 second requirement. That is definitely something to improve on. I think we did a pretty good job on all the five guarantees except communication and project management. I would like to see things turned in on time for my next project, and to have better communication between editor and cinematographer.  Role   For this commercial I took on the production role of cinematographer. This was one of my goals I set last year: I wanted get more familiar with the cam...

Film Reel Blog

For my film reel I tried to portray a teen lifestyle. It shows several teenagers in moments when they are thriving and when they are at a low. I really like this because it makes the reel more relatable to my fellow classmates. I also wanted it to really flow naturally to make it easy to watch so I didn't have any headers for my film clips and just let the shots speak for themselves. I also tried to edit my shots in a way that the movement flowed through each to make it feel even more smooth and collected.   I also tried to really showcase cinematography and good lighting in this reel. I used some of my best colored and lit shots from lowlight and daylight to show the variety I am capable of. I chose my most cinematically composed shots that show purposeful spacing and positioning of the subjects. I had my friend Cade Wait compose my music so it would fit perfectly with my reel and add some extra suspense. I was very picky with the shots I used so unfortunately my reel was a ...
