Pre-Production
For our script we chose wimp by Miles Todd. It is about a scrawny underdog who stands up to the school bully by arm wrestling him. This was a very comedic and cheesy script. We started off by finalizing the script. After that we made our storyboards, prop list and discussed all the shots we wanted to use. We then began looking for locations to film at. Unfortunately none of the schools we asked would let us film so we had to film at ONW. We then found actors and coordinated with them to make a film schedule.
Production
This part of the process did not go as smooth as we would have liked. After a couple days of filming we realized that our current script had to many actors and was too complicated. To fix this we all got together rewrote our script and essentially did the Pre-Production process again. After dong this the rest of filming went much better and we were able to finish on time. For hardware we used a 50 mm lens, tripod, and rhode mic. My role was art director so I made most of of the story boards, I also helped our DP max cooper set up shots. We used the 5 guarantees by properly communicating and collaborating so we got our work done on time. Great leaderships were also show by our director miles. Technical skills were a little lacking in our group though because none of us were really comfortable with using the camera.
Post-Production
We started post-production by transferring all our files to the macs and then organized them. The rest of the editing process went pretty smoothly except for coloring. Our editor nick mason had trouble coloring a lot of our shots because hadn't set the white balance. We also began to notice some of our audio was a bit ruff but we adjusted it and made it slightly better.
General Thoughts/Conclusion
One thing I thought my group did really well was communication and collaboration. We were able to all stay calm and collective even when we had to do everything over. Something I would do different is make sure my group has someone who is comfortable behind camera. The main lesson I learned from this short film is to make sure your script does not contain too many characters other wise it makes everything extremely difficult. Overall i'm satisfied with how our short filmed turned out even if some of the cinematography isn't the best.
