Printing Processes

Relief Printing  Relief printing is the process of applying ink to a printing block which is then brought in contact with a piece of paper. The block may be made up of many different materials such as wood or linoleum. The material the block is made of effects the grain and texture of the printing. Steps  1. Transfer drawing to block 2. Decide if you are going to create a white line or black line printing 3. Carve the drawing into the block 4. Apply ink to the block 5. Put paper on the block then roll it through the press                                                                                                                               ...

Panorama

Personal Narrative  It was a long slow eight hour car drive to Winner South Dakota. I looked out the car window as we quickly zipped passed fields full of corn, beans, alfalfa, and tall, bright  sunflowers. In and out of small rural towns only stopping a couple times for gas. The minutes slowly turned to hours and we finally arrived at my grandmas ranch in the dead of night. I got out of the car stretched and immediately  passed out on a fresh set of sheets. I woke up early in the mourning excited for the fun day ahead of me. I yanked my brother out of bed and we ran outside. We were met with a rush of warm fresh air, there was cooling breeze blowing through the trees. Me and my brother started up two four wheelers and started down the long dirt road with wind in our face. We drove up huge hills covered in thick grass. I could see the slow flowing, muddy river and wide open fields full of hay bails. We drove back to the small ranch house then watched the warm orange s...

Pop Art

Process  The first thing I did to the image of my partner was cut him out and remove the background. This way I could put a bright gradient in the background. Then I put a filter on my partner to make him look like he was composed of small dots to give it that retro pop art feel.  I also used paint splatters in the background which gave it another pop of color. that I made four copies of my partner, made color adjustment layers for them, and gave them each a different tint of color. I tried to use several bright colors in my image to replicate the contrasting colors pop artist would use. Inspiration I got most of my inspiration for Warhol because he often drew the same image multiple times in different colors just like how I made copies of my image in different colors. I also got some inspiration for Liechtenstein because I made my partner look like he was made of small dots to give the image an almost comic book like feel.

Photoshop Challenge

Nature Man  When I got the image of the man I immediately got the idea to stick to a theme of some sort. So theme I chose was Los Angeles. From the beginning I wanted to put some sort of sunset on the mans jacket. So I used a layer mask to take an image of a sunset in LA and put it on to his jacket. I also chose the lighten blending mode so I could still see some texture from his jacket. Then I chose an arial view of LA as the background. I had to create a layer mask of the man in order to make this my background. I also chose to turn the brightness/contrast up on this layer. Then to finish it off I put clip art of  the word Los Angeles behind the mans head. In my opinion it turned out very well, and I am looking forward to learning more photoshop tools to create more complex pieces.

Photoshop Lessons

Overview For this project we had to watch several photoshop tutorials on how to use various tools. Some of these tools include   Content Aware Fill, Patch Tool, Clone Stamp Tool, Healing Brush Tool, and Spot Healing Brush. I thought these tutorials were a great way to get us used to a   unfamiliar software. Content Aware Fill Content aware fill allows you to remove small blemishes and unwanted objects. It works best on a simple background that doesn't have a lot of different patterns. In this photo I removed several small blemishes on the brick wall.  Patch Tool The patch tool enables you to select large areas of an image and swap it out with a color, pattern, or texture from another spot on your image. This is useful when you have larger spots or blemishes that content aware fill cant remove. In this image I removed an unwanted graphic from the blue shirt.                     ...

Self Reflection

Describe For my self-portrait I chose to film a comedy skit. It was a parody of survival videos made by people like Bear Grylle's. What this shows about me is that I like to make people smile and laugh. I always try to incorporate comedy into whatever I do to lighten the mood. This video also shows that I don't just give up when things don't go my way, because it started to rain and I continued film anyways. Explain I chose to film the video outside because it was meant to be a survival skit, but weather was not on our side and it decided to rain. In the end it was a good thing though because it added to the comedic affect. I also chose to film and zoom in an amateur way to try and make the video funnier. I didn't really have a choice for the lighting because it was overcast, and i don't have any studio lights, but it turned out fine anyways.  Reflect One of the challenges I faced was that the audio got washed out because of the heavy rain in the backgr...

Quarter Reflection

4th Quarter Project  For our end of the year project we had to create a product and a company. To go along with this we also had to make a website, commercial, logo, animations, and advertisements. for our product we chose the Warp Watch, a watch that also you to travel through time to fix your mistakes. I learned a lot of stuff along the way such as imbedding logos into SketchUp, and how to change the CSS designs in dreamweaver. some feedback that we got was that our website was to bland, to fix that we went back and aded more shades of blue to the webpage. My opinion of my work work in quarter four is that I did a pretty good job of collaborating with my group, and coming up with ideas that we all liked. I also think this project has improved my time management and collaboration skills.  How Did I Use My Time Some of the activities I completed during my class time were the banner, the 3d design, and the scripts for our presentation. At times that i finished...
